This fall the Transylvania volleyball team has been a dominant force on the court, and much of their success is due to the talents of senior setter Rebecca Luking.
In their game against Asbury University, Luking set the all-time assists record for the university.
“It’s always nice to get rewarded for all the hard work that you put into something,” said Luking. ”After practicing hard every day and having individual practices multiple times a week, it’s nice to see it finally pay off.”
Luking has put a lot of extra time and effort into the game, and this has not gone unnoticed.
“She has come in before practice begins to get extra reps and even comes in before a match for more reps,” said head coach Casey Dale. “She has by far put more time into her game than anyone else on the team.”
Even with her success, Luking realizes she would not be where she is without her coaches.
“Casey and Glenn (DeHaven) have been very helpful in helping me grow as an all-around player. They have put a lot of time and effort into making sure everything that we do will contribute to our success,” said Luking.
Luking also credits her teammates for her success at Transy.
“I couldn’t be as successful of a setter without my team; everyone works hard and there is not one person who doesn’t contribute to our success,” said Luking.
Luking also sees the importance in the support system she has in her family.
“My parents have been to every single game of my college career and are always there to support me during the good games and the bad ones,” Luking said. “They have shown me how to be 100 percent dedicated and to give my all.”
In her career, Luking has shown growth as a player and as a leader.
“She has matured in so many ways and has shown her teammates the kind of work ethic it takes to be a champion,” said Dale.
Just like every year, Luking is looking to help lead the team to a successful season.
“I am looking forward to remaining undefeated in conference, hosting the conference tournament, winning the tournament and making it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in Transy volleyball history,” said Luking.
“We are very fortunate to have Rebecca as a part of our program. She has worked her tail off the past couple years and deserves every award she receives,” Dale said.
