Transylvania’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee raised $4,316 in just over a month for Special Olympics Kentucky’s annual Polar Plunge fundraiser. This was the first year that Transy participated in this event as a university. Congrats to the 15 athletes who participated in the plunge for representing the university in an honorable way.

Track and field strong in College of Mount St. Joseph Invitational.

The women were fifth and were led by sophomores Alex Rand, Keeona Ives and Erica Noe, first-years Nicole Coffman and Elizabeth Hardt, junior Laura Clark and seniors Kristen Ballard, April Myers and Lucy Wright.

The men, who finished sixth, had strong contributions from sophomores Mason Williams and Ryan Jennings, as well as first-years Ben Lyvers and Chip Clark.

Softball splits doubleheader with Defiance

Softball is now 10-10-1 after a 4-2 win over Defiance College in its second game Sunday and sweeping Thomas More Wednesday. Key contributors for Wednesday’s contests were first-years Elizabeth Young, Amy Hockstedler, Emily Hampton and Alyssa Oakley, juniors Michelle Ladanyi and Megan Mitchell, and senior Emily McCarty and Kaitlyn Foree.

Baseball gets clutch win over Centre

Senior Ken Riley launched a homer for the second day in a row as the Pioneers went on to win 4-2 over Colonels. Fellow senior Danny Niehaus came up big on the mound for the Pioneers as he got the save in a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts. Other notables were first-year Nick Edwards, sophomore Zach Bynum, Ryan James, and senior Zach Muench. With this win the men are now 8-9.

Twelve student-athletes named to the Tom Bohlsen Academic Team

Congrats to juniors Charli Fant and Terra Lucas and sophomore Emily Ullrich for women’s basketball; sophomore Ashley Hatfield for men’s basketball; seniors Betsy Heines, Kristen Ballard, Lucy Wright and Curtis Puryear and sophomore Michael Smith for track and field; and seniors Joseph Porter, Tommy Stephens and Yunan Yang for men’s swimming.
