- Congrats to the three Pioneers who have been named Player of the Week by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Men’s golf sophomore Clay Hinton came away with the win, the second win in three weeks, at the Hanover College Invitational, finishing with a 3-under total of 141. First-year Elizabeth Young was named HCAC Pitcher of the Week after helping the softball team to four wins. She had three wins and a save in four contests. She also had a 5-2 win over Thomas More College. The third player to be recognized was senior left-hander Chris Bloch, who was also named HCAC Pitcher of the Week after hurling a complete-game, seven-inning 2-0 shutout against Defiance College. He struck out eight and allowed one walk.
Men’s golf snatches Hanover Invitational
- The seventh-ranked Pioneers posted a two-day total of 578 to win by a 36-shot margin. Besides Hinton, other Transy golfers in the top seven were fellow sophomore Jantzen Latham (143), junior Hunter Frazier (146), and seniors Justin Tereshko (148) and James Dawson (149). Both first-year Ben Fister and junior Stephen Montgomery finished at 152.
Softball splits with Franklin
- In their first game Tuesday, the Pioneers came away with an impressive 11-1 five-inning HCAC softball win over Franklin College. After just three innings, the Pioneers led by a 10-0 margin. Young went three innings without allowing a run to get the victory. She had three strikeouts and no walks. Contributors at the plate were first-years Emily Hampton and Cassie Hamilton, sophomore Chelsea Meiners, junior Michelle Ladanyi and senior Emily McCarty.
Baseball sweeps Jackets behind Riley, Brinkman
- On Sunday Transy hammered out a season-high 19 hits, including those by seniors Ken Riley and Kevin Brinkman, as they defeated Defiance 15-6. Other key players were fellow senior Johnny Renz, first-years Nick Edwards and Jamie King, sophomore Ryan James and junior Royce Neeley.
