Pioneer Performance: This week’s award was earned by both the men AND women’s soccer teams, who both claimed Heartland tournament championships on Saturday. The men cruised to a 4-1 win over Anderson University led by two second-half goals from HCAC scoring leader Kyle Smith. The women’s team won a 6-5 shootout in dramatic fashion over Earlham College after ending regulation 0-0 to claim the HCAC championship.

Matchup of the Week: If you guessed that this week’s matchup would be the UK vs. Transy basketball exhibition game, don’t pat yourself on the back too much; it wasn’t that tough. After losing to UK in last year’s preseason game, the Pioneers face a virtually brand new Wildcat team on Monday night at 8pm in Rupp Arena. Despite being heavy underdogs against the Wildcats, the Pioneers are ranked 16th in the DIII preseason rankings and are favorites to win the Heartland conference.

Player to Watch: Senior forward Brandon Rash returns to the UK-Transy matchup along with seven other Pioneer seniors. After being selected to the All-HCAC team last season and leading the team in rebounds, Rash begins with a tough first matchup, most likely facing off against UK’s star recruit Alex Poythress.
